It is largely residential today, but maintains a historic district that is centered on Main Street to highlight its industrial roots. The Department of Defense is a prominent presence as well, with the Fort Meade Army base, the National Security Agency, and Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory all located within the area.
